Crying & Throwing Up: Let’s Talk About The Fear In Getting Visible

A recording from Katie | Marketing For Humans's live video

Thank you

, , and the other almost 3 dozen people who came to hear us yap & think & wonder & challenge & fuckin’ LAUGH for an hour!

This week’s live with

was, per usual, so much fun and the convo was SO important.

Visibility - getting visible for your business, brand, whatever - is not everyone cup of tea.

And for so many it’s more like a cup of anxiety.

BUT if getting visible is something you truly what you want to do, no matter the reason, you have to just to do what Melinda Mae did in the Shel Silverstein poem (thank you to the wonderful person who helped me remember the name!).

You take one small bite after another until you’ve eaten the whole damn whale.

(I can’t find my book, it’s really bugging me, but here’s the poem & illustrations)

Melinda Mae

by Shel Silverstein

Have you heard of tiny Melinda Mae,
Who ate a monstrous whale?
She thought she could,
She said she would,
So she started in right at the tail.

And everyone said,'You're much too small,'
But that didn't bother Melinda at all,
She took little bites and she chewed very slow,
Just like a little girl should...

...and eighty-nine years later she ate that whale

Because she said she would! ! !

Getting visible means simply doing the thing that scares you one little bit at a time until it’s not as scary any more. Until you conquered your whale.

And now I need someone to tell me I’m not alone in my childhood love of Shel Silverstein! We read Where The Sidewalk Ends every night before bed for years.
