💚 A Non-Conformist Marketer's Manifesto
anti-burnout, anti-BS, and anti-anything that does scream "human"
Inside The Haven is where midlife moms building businesses (and def needing a nap) come to feel seen, supported, and reminded they’re powerful as hell.
Part pep talk 💕, part permission slip 👍🏻, part practical magic ✨ & all for you.
Can I show you something?
I was (and still am) proud of that.
I also have a BA in Marketing Communications but god knows where that diploma is.
When I started my freelance writing business almost 6 years ago, I didn’t think I’d go back into marketing.
It looked SO different than what I learned back in 2004 when I graduated with my bachelors. But I was still fascinated by the practice & how it worked in the online business space.
But almost 4 years in, I’m tired, annoyed, & done.
Marketing, thanks to the good-with-the-bad internet, has become synonymous with predatory tactics, slimy strategies, and a bait-&-switch attitude that just feels gross to a lot of us.
🤮 Bro marketing has taken what is a very normal, and necessary, part of business & brand building and made it icky & predatory.
🤮 Coaches selling courses from other coaches about how to coach has taken real solo business possibility and turned it into the worst kind of MLM.
🤮 Copy & Paste templates & frameworks has turned what could be really real, human & connective content & messaging into giant beige rooms of indecipherable noise.
Nothing is pretty or fun or unique or eye-catching because everything is either:
Scary, off-putting, annoying, predatory
Boring & uninspiring
As a true lover of the kind of marketing that shares magic with people looking for that exact kind of magic, I am no longer available for…
❌ The “rules” of traditional marketing that have been adapted (badly) for the internet.
❌ The hustle harder, be louder, be what you’re not in order to make yourself “marketable” thing.
❌ The pressure to always be creating, showing up, speaking out.
❌ The absolute dogshit belief that going viral equals success.
❌ The idea that being visible has to mean being exposed.
❌ Messaging that preys on fear, shame, lack, or manufactured urgency.
But as a true lover of the kind of marketing that shares magic with people looking for that exact kind of magic, I am available for…
💚 Slower, steadier, nervous system supportive growth that builds foundations & not just platforms. (And finding the self-trust to grow this way)
💚 The kind of “getting visible” that is more chat-with-a-friend & less ring-light-&-script.
💚 Messaging that’s empowering, inspiring, & inclusive to the people it’s meant for.
💚 Success metrics based solely on your business & your goals - not someone else’s.
💚 Marketing frameworks & basics that allow you to build from them, not based on them.
💚 Embracing the truth that you are not for everyone & everyone is not for you. (This will set you free. Kind of like listening to ‘Tommy’ with a candle burning & seeing your entire future, IYKYK)
Bottom line: I am anti-burnout, anti-BS, and anti-anything that asks us to be someone else just for clicks.
I am here to tell the truth, build with true integrity, and help other women market like we actually like themselves.
I am not anti-marketing. I’m pro-human marketing.
Marketing & promotion doesn’t have to be painful.
Selling doesn’t have to feel icky.
Showing up doesn’t have to mean contortionist levels of change.
So seriously, who’s with me?
I truly believe that we are the builders. The rememberers. The storytellers without a script.
The ones who market, share & promote with heart, within our boundaries, and focused on a big, bright vision.
This is marketing for the rest of us.
The real ones. The ones who are done performing and ready to build something that feels like truth, like home…like the inside of a Panera Bread circa 2003 ☺️
If you’re ready for all of this, plus whatever magic happens when you get there, come hang out Inside The Haven.
This is the kind of thing we’re doing, what we’re learning & how we’re planning to be.
You’ll love it in here.
This honestly sounds like music to my ears. I am so over all of the inauthentic marketing BS that's peddled on Instagram these days.
Oh yes to the coaches selling to coaches 🤮. I'm completely with you on the ick as well, I felt the same about the leadership world and all that corporate BS. It's annoying that those who can and want to change and challenge these things often have to step away because its hard to keep going and protecting themselves in the process.
